Brunch at the Hotel del Coronado - To The Hotels

If you find yourself near San Diego, California on a Sunday, there is an experience not to be missed. The award-winning Sunday Brunch buffet at The Del offers a show stopping array of foods including breakfast, brunch and lunch items. Hundreds of foods, both hot and cold, are offered. There is an omelet station, roasted meats, an assortment of salads, seafood, breads and multiple tables of desserts. The 9 a.m.-2 p.m. event has a large following but because guests are seated in several dining rooms, hundreds of people can be accommodated at the same time.
Brunch is held in the world-famous Crown Room, which rivals the imagination. Whimsical crown shaped chandeliers, designed by Wizard of Oz author L. Frank Baum, drop from glowing sugar-pine ceiling. Spacious windows circling the room offer some of California's most radiant views.
See why the splendor of the Crown Room was chosen as the first state dinner held outside the White House and as a setting for many Hollywood films.

Hotel del Coronado, situated along 28 oceanfront acres, is an elegant example of Victorian architecture and is considered one of America's most beautiful resorts. The Del completed a $55 million restoration in 2001, which has resulted in brand new oceanfront dining, redesigned and air conditioned Victorian rooms, a new bar and retail venues. A grand lawn now reconnects the beach and ocean to the Victorian Building. But the Crown Room, home to the brunch, has changed little in many years.

Voted "Best Hotel Dining" by the San Diego Union-Tribune, the Hotel del Coronado boasts a talented culinary team of over 100 culinary associates headed by Executive Chef Greg Ische. Offering classic, California coastal, casual and the award-winning Sunday Brunch, the resort provides a wide variety of dining alternatives.

The Del also received top honors in the San Diego Magazine's annual "Best Dining Guide" in August, 2005 for "best Sunday brunch."

For Sunday Brunch reservations call (619) 522-8490 or email deldining@hoteldel.com; adults: $72.50; children 6-12: $22.95, children under 5 are free.

Hotel del Coronado TO THE HOTELS

Hotel del Coronado (also known as The Del) is a beachfront luxury hotel in the city of Coronado, just across the San Diego Bay from San Diego, California. It is one of the few surviving examples of an American architectural genre: the wooden Victorian beach resort. It is one of the oldest and largest all-wooden buildings in California and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1977,[3][5] and is a designated California Historical Landmark.[4]
When it opened in 1888, it was the largest resort hotel in the world and the first to use electrical lighting. It has hosted presidents, royalty, and celebrities throughout the years.[6] The hotel has been featured in numerous movies and books.
The hotel received the Four Diamond rating from the American Automobile Association,[7] and was listed by USA Today as one of the "Top 10 Resorts In The World".[8

San Diego land boom

In the mid-1880s, the San Diego region was in the midst of one of its first real estate booms. At that time, it was common for a developer to build a grand hotel as a draw for what would otherwise be a barren landscape. The Hollywood Hotel in Hollywood, California, the Raymond Hotel in Pasadena, the Del Monte in Monterey, and the Hotel Redondo in Redondo Beach California were similar grand hotels built as development enticements during this era.[9]

[edit] Coronado Beach Company

Main building of the Hotel del Coronado
On December 19, 1885, Elisha S. Babcock, retired railroad executive from Evansville, Indiana; Hampton L. Story, of the Story and Clark Piano Company of Chicago; and Jacob Gruendike, president of the First National Bank of San Diego, bought all of Coronado and North Island for $110,000.
24-page prospectus with the title Coronado Beach. San Diego, California, asserted that "The Coronado Beach Company has been organized with a capital of One Million Dollars …." The officers were Babcock, Story, and Gruendike. Also involved with the company at this early stage were three men from Indiana: railroad baron Josephus Collett of Terre Haute, lumber merchant Heber Ingle of Patoka, and John Inglehart, a miller, who later became famous through the development of Swansdown flour.
The men hired architect James W. Reid, a native of New Brunswick, Canada, who first practiced in Evansville and Terre Haute. His younger brother Merritt Reid, a partner in Reid Brothers, the Evansville firm, stayed in Indiana, but brother Watson Reid helped supervise the 2,000 laborers.[9]
Babcock's visions for the hotel were grand:
"It would be built around a court…a garden of tropical trees, shrubs and flowers,…. From the south end, the foyer should open to Glorietta Bay with verandas for rest and promenade. On the ocean corner, there should be a pavilion tower, and northward along the ocean, a colonnade, terraced in grass to the beach. The dining wing should project at an angle from the southeast corner of the court and be almost detached, to give full value to the view of the ocean, bay and city."[10]

Hotel Leela rules - FOR THE HOTELS

Hotel Leela has clarified that neither is it up for sale, nor are there plans to bring in a strategic investor. CNBC-TV18 reports that the company has shut its doors as far as negations with ITC were concerned saying there isn't any synergy between the two hotels.
The Leela promoters, who have 55% stake in the hotel, will use the creeping acquisition route to further strengthen its stake holding, managing director and vice chairman Vivek Nair said.
Hotel Leela rules out 'up for sale' theory; says QIP in '11

The company, he said, will look at taking a QIP issue in April 2011, which will dilute promoter holdings. The hotels debt currently stands at Rs 3,000 crore, 30-40% of which will be reduced in a span of three-years.

Honeymoon package at 'world's smallest hotel - By The Hotels

Bavaria:  The owners say this is the world's smallest hotel.

The Eh'haeusl (eh-HOY-zel) in the medieval town of Amberg in Bavaria is only two and a-half meters -- that's just over eight feet wide.

Built in the 1700s, it's just been renovated, and has now re-opened to accept guests once again, even if it's only big enough to offer accommodation to one couple at a time.

With its new decor, the hotel offers those who stay five-star luxury, stretching out over seven narrow floors.
Interior designer Marianne Luff says there were lots of obstacles to overcome in getting it furnished.

In English, Eh'haeusl means "marriage house." The building was constructed in order to give people a chance to skirt a city council ruling that only property owners could get married.

In its original incarnation, the house was so tiny and inexpensive that poor people could actually buy the house, get married, move in and then sell it on soon after to the next marriage-minded couple.

Of course, that was long before the current make-over, which has created an ambiance luxurious enough to satisfy even the most demanding visitor.

Heinz Wilhelm, who stayed at Eh'hauesl with his wife Barbara, was certainly impressed.

And designer Luff notes there could be an extra special benefit for those who choose Eh'hauesl to start off their honeymoon.

Well worth the 240 euros a night it costs to stay.

ROSO DARAS-To THE Hotels

Tugu Selamat Datang

Melintaslah di jantung kota Jakarta, Jl. MH.
Begitu sekilas info tentang Tugu Selamat Datang. (roso daras)

Jembatan Semanggi, Simbol Persatuan

SEMANGGI
Pembangunan Tugu Monas, Hotel Indonesia, Sarinah, Semanggi, Stadion Senayan, Gedung Conefo (sekarang gedung DPR-MPR RI), dll, dianggap sebagai poyek mercu suar.
(roso daras)

Hotel Indonesia, Riwayatmu Kini

Penggagasnya? Siapa lagi kalau bukan Sukarno, Presiden Republik Indonesia yang pertama.
Seperti halnya ketika ia membangun Sarinah Dept Store, maka proyek Hotel Indonesia pun tak sepi dari kritik sebagian elemen masyarakat, yang menuding sebagai proyek mercu suar. Bung Karno terus melangkah. Bahkan mengobarkan slogan ‘A Dramatic Hotel_Indonesia 1962Symbol of Free Nations Working Together’, bagi proyek pembangunan Hotel Indonesia itu.
(roso daras)
